At the moment, citizens with a Taiwanese passport do not need to register with EVUS to enter the United States. However, if a resident of Taiwan has a Chinese (PRC) passport, it is then necessary to complete an EVUS registration.
The application process is simple and takes a matter of minutes to complete. The form requires applicants to answer some basic questions.
For Chinese citizens, EVUS is an additional requirement. It is also necessary to have a US visa, normally either a B1/B2 or combination visa. Taiwanese passport holders just need a US visa to enter.
Taiwanese residents who hold a Chinese passport can enroll with EVUS by completing the online EVUS form. Applicants have to enter a range of information including their full name, date of birth, passport details, visa information, and employment details.
Although the application form only takes several minutes to complete, applicants should apply at least 72 hours before traveling to the US to allow time for their application to be processed.
To submit the application successfully, it is necessary to have a valid Chinese passport and a valid B1/B2 visa. Applicants also need to pay the visa fee using a credit or debit card.
An approved [EVUS registration is valid](https://www.evus.us/faq/how-long-will-my-evus-update-be-valid-for) for a period of two years and it can be used to enter the US multiple times. However, if someone’s passport, or their visa, expires before this two-year period, their EVUS authorization is no longer valid.
In these cases it’s necessary to re-enroll with EVUS once the new passport and/or visa has been obtained. It is impossible to re-apply for visa without a valid passport and US visa.
It’s not a problem if your EVUS registration expires while you’re in the US . You only need a valid EVUS authorization to enter the US, not to leave.
